Polypropylene staple fiber is a common form of polypropylene fiber. In China, it is usually referred to as "polypropylene" in commercial terms. It is a chemical fiber product made by heating and melting polypropylene resin, then undergoing spinning, stretching, curling, heat setting, and cutting into the specified length. Depending on the subsequent application, the length of polypropylene staple fiber is usually adjusted to be between 1.5 and 200.0 millimeters to suit different textile and non-woven processes. 

Physical properties and process advantages

The material characteristics of Polypropylene staple fibers are particularly outstanding. Its density is only 0.90 - 0.92 g/cm, making it a lightweight material. In terms of strength, its dry and wet strength retention rates are relatively high, which enables it to maintain good durability even in humid environments and is suitable for ropes or industrial fabrics that require wear resistance. Additionally, polypropylene staple fibers have excellent resistance to acid and alkali corrosion and anti-microbial properties. They not only do not decay but can also resist the erosion of various chemicals. 

In the field of textile processing, Polypropylene staple fibers have demonstrated excellent combing properties and heat bonding capabilities. Especially for the fine and lightweight specifications, they have a soft texture and possess a wicking effect, which can absorb moisture and keep the contact surface dry. 

Main application fields

Geotechnical and construction materials. In the infrastructure sector, polypropylene filament is an important raw material for producing geotextiles. It is widely used in the reinforcement layers of roads, railways and dams, effectively distributing stress loads and delaying subgrade settlement and cracking. Adding polypropylene filament to concrete can enhance the material's impact resistance and waterproof and thermal insulation properties, and reduce the occurrence of shrinkage cracks. 

Home and industrial textiles. Through needle-punching or hot-pressing processes, Polypropylene staple fibers can be made into automotive interior materials, carpets, and furniture linings. Their strong coverage, easy cleaning, and anti-staining properties give them certain advantages in the decorative field. 

Hygiene and filtration materials. In the medical and healthcare field, Polypropylene staple fibers are used to produce the fabric layers of disposable hygiene products such as diapers and sanitary pads. At the same time, due to its stable chemical properties, it is also used as a filtration material, playing a role in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and environmental protection industries. 

Expansion in the clothing sector. Traditional polypropylene fibers have been limited in their use in clothing due to the difficulty in dyeing. However, with the development of liquid dyeing technology and dyeable modified products, this issue is improving. Currently, fine denier and ultra-fine denier polypropylene staple fibers can be blended with cotton, viscose, etc., to be used in the development of sportswear or thermal underwear. Their lightweight and moisture-wicking properties enhance the comfort of wearing.
